Dodds Hall Mezzanine
Design Principles, Modular Design
Location: West Haven, CT
Class: Environmental Design
Design Statement:
The Hexagon Hangout was created to spark productivity among students who need an extra space to work. The unique geometric structure allows for two story access to both individual and collaborative workspaces. Individuals can gather on the top floor for group meetings and hangouts. Below that, this lounge offers individual booths for a more intimate work setting. Another cozy lounge option is the floor den which provides a laid-back nook for relaxing. The use of light green and bright orange reflects the multifaceted studies of Dodd’s Hall. The structure itself can be constructed on site for easy assembly, while not altering the pre-existing architecture. This allows for a cheaper cost while still fitting in the building’s aesthetic.

Sunlight Mapping & Heat Gain

Heat gain is the process of sunlight passing through the glass of a window in the form of radiation. This process is measured in foot candles. A foot candle is the illuminance of a one square foot surface from a uniform source of light.
